Queens County wildfire continues to grow

Crews continue to battle an out-of-control wildfire burning in Queens County.

The fire between Chipman and Canaan Forks was first reported on Saturday.

It has since grown to around 650 hectares, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

More than 80 firefighters were working to battle the blaze as of Wednesday morning.

Several aircraft are fighting the flames from above, and crews are also working to build a fire break.

A special air quality statement remains in place for northern Queens County, particularly communities east of Chipman.

Meanwhile, two smaller fires are burning out of control in the McAdam area. One is 3.5 hectares in size, while the other is one hectare.

Twelve other fires were also burning as of Wednesday morning. One was contained, one was under control, and the rest were being patrolled.

A burn ban remains in effect for much of New Brunswick, with the exception of northern regions.
