Quispamsis Council Resumes In-Person Meetings

No more virtual meetings for councillors in the town of Quispamsis.

Town council met in person Tuesday night for the first time since mid-February.

Mayor Gary Clark told reporters it is great to be back in the council chambers.

“We certainly have the plexiglass in place now and we wanted to make sure that council and staff and residents that were coming to council meetings, that it was safe,” said Clark.

Plexiglass has been installed between all of the councillors and staff members sitting around the council horseshoe.

Spectators were physically distanced and had to have their temperature taken before entering the council chambers.

Up until now, councillors and staff had been meeting virtually using GoToMeeting and would broadcast the meetings online.

“The GoToMeetings, at first, were a bit of a challenge. Very different, like everything is with COVID. However, we worked through it and staff provided us with all of the technology that we needed and it really worked very well,” said Clark.

Despite being back in the council chambers, Clark said they plan to continue livestreaming the meetings for the time being.

“I’m getting many residents telling me that it’s great to actually be able to sit home and actually watch the council meeting, so for them to be very informative and watch this on a regular basis is great,” he said.

Clark said council and staff are ready to switch back to virtual meetings in the event of a second wave of COVID-19.
