An evaluation of ridership and costing for the Comex public transit service which travels to and from uptown Saint John to the Kennebecasis Valley and Hampton is going to be done in 2018 by the town of Quispamsis.
That’s one of the commitments made within the 2018 town budget, which was passed unanimously on Tuesday evening.
Mayor Gary Clark says while he does believe Comex is a great service for residents he also says they have to be cautious and cognizant of the ridership.
“Moving forward we are going to watch that very closely,” says Clark. “We have to look at that in 2018 to see where the ridership stands and we certainly hope that people use it so that they don’t lose it.”
The town is providing about $7800 more in funding for the public transit system in 2018 to the tune of just about $163,000. Saint John Transit started the Comex service back in 2007. Quispamsis councillor Pierre Rioux, meantime, has expressed that he would like to see funding for Comex halted altogether.
