Rabies Case Discovered In Waweig

A case of rabies has been discovered in Waweig.

The Mayfield Veterinary Clinic says they were informed of a positive case of rabies detected in a skunk.

The skunk was apparently wandering down the road with quills, and the Clinic says it’s uncommon for a healthy skunk to attack a porcupine.

The skunk was been trapped and tested by the Department of Natural Resources, who are also in the process of trapping a few other possible cases in the area.

They’re reminding pet owners to keep a close eye on their pets, and to ensure they are up to date on vaccinations.

Since 2014, twenty-six cases of rabies were reported in Charlotte County, with another case in McAdam.

There was only one case reported in Elmsville in 2016.
