We are in for a messy mix of weather across southern New Brunswick on Friday.
There is a rainfall warning for southwestern regions, including Saint John and Charlotte counties.
Environment Canada says up to 25 millimetres of rain could fall through Friday evening.
“The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall,” the weather agency said in a statement.
Meanwhile, a freezing rain warning is in effect for the rest of southern and central New Brunswick, including:
- Fredericton and Southern York County
- Fundy National Park
- Grand Lake and Queens County
- Kent County
- Kouchibouguac National Park
- Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick
- Oromocto and Sunbury County
- Stanley – Doaktown – Blackville Area
- Sussex – Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County
- Woodstock and Carleton County
Forecasters said four to eight hours of freezing rain is expected before it changes to rain by noon Friday.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery,” said Environment Canada.
The weather agency said there may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas, and utility outages may occur.
School closures
There are some school closures on Friday as a result of the weather.
All schools in the Francophone South School District are closed.
That includes Centre scolaire Samuel-de-Champlain in Saint John, and École des Pionniers in Quispamsis.
