RCMP Confirm Drowning Victim From Riverview

A man who drowned while swimming on the north shore in PEI, has been identified by RCMP as a man from Riverview.

The 52 year old man was swimming in St. Margaret’s, when he got caught in the current and high waves..

Police, along with the Souris fire department and local fishermen responded to the scene….but they says due to the surf conditions, and a strong current, rescue crews were unable to reach him.

Meantime,

A Red Cross research report from 2009 to 2014, showed that an average of 457 Canadians drown each year.

There are several steps they recommend to staying safe while in or around open water.

Never underestimate the power of the currents, because you can be swept away instantly.

They say currents can have enormous powers and can trap even the strongest of swimmers.

You should be aware at all times, because wind and waves can come up suddenly and pose a threat to swimmers.
