RCMP officer disputes report he was friends with gunman behind mass shooting

An RCMP officer who made frequent visits to gunman behind Canada’s worst mass shooting is disputing reports they were friends.

Constable Greg Wiley told the inquiry looking into the murders that Gabriel Wortman was a community contact and gave him tips about local crimes.

Wiley stopped by Wortman’s cottage in Portapique about 15 or 16 times in the years prior to the murders.

However, Wiley testified the public has the wrong idea about their relationship, and adds he was always on duty when visiting.

Wiley was also tasked with looking reports Wortman threatened to kill his parents in 2010, but charges were never laid.
