RCMP officer rescues youth from water in Northeastern N.B.

A quick intervention by the RCMP helped to save the life of a youth in mental distress.

On June 2, officers were called to Lameque Island in Northeastern New Brunswick.

Police say a youth had gone into the cold and rough waters in Chiasson Office and was around 100 feet from the shoreline when officers arrived, and could no longer feel or move her arms or legs.

Corporal Sylvain Bergeron swam to the youth and brought her back to shore.

She was treated at the scene for hypothermia and then taken to the hospital.

The Shippagan Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick also assisted at the scene.
