Family hoping to bring Luc Bourgeois home

UPDATE: Family members of Luc Bourgeois say his body was located on July 31. See the updated story here.

A police search for a missing kayaker off the Shediac coast has concluded.

RCMP say they’re still asking for the public’s help to locate 34-year-old Luc Bourgeois.

He was last seen on Thursday between 1 and 2 p.m. when he headed out fishing from the Pointe-du-Chêne wharf.

Police say the underwater recovery and ground search and rescue teams have searched tirelessly the last few days, and have covered a lot of ground with no success.

Meanwhile, family and friends have set up a Facebook group called Bring Luc Home as they continue their own search.

They’ll meet again at 9 a.m. Monday at the Pointe-du-Chêne wharf for anyone who would like to assist.

A plea was sent out to anyone in the area who has a boat to help them out on the water, and anyone who can also search on foot.

In a live video on Facebook, they say search and rescue officials have advised them that the next two days are imperative.
