Record Online Cheer For N.B. Swimmer At Olympic Trials

A swimmer from Greater Moncton will participate in Canada’s Olympic swim trials in Toronto later this month.

Swimming Canada has come up with a way for everyone to show their support with a recorded message or cheer of support.

Brooklyn Douthwright, who is from Riverview, will compete from June 19 to 23 in the Canada Olympic swim trials in the hopes of getting to the Tokyo Olympics.

Swimming Canada has moved to an Invitational model, only inviting athletes ranked inside the Top 20 of all events (after meeting the Trials qualifying standard)

CNBO Coach Ryan Allen says these trials are very different than in the past due to COVID-19.

“No families are allowed in, and even athletes that are competing and Coaches that are there, you can only be there for the specific period that your athlete is racing. Swimming Canada put out the call for some Homebase cheers,” Allen says.

Anyone can go to the Swimming Canada webpage, and record the cheer directly onto the site. It will be heard by Brooklyn at the pool during competition at the trials.

“She has been in Toronto for the last couple of months training in preparation for trials and is relatively isolated from her teammates and some of her family and friends. Being able to hear some of that home base support would definitely mean a lot for her,” Allen says.

Your message can be recorded on the Swimming Canada website.
