Renovated St. Stephen Church To House Youth Support Program

A partnership between the Fundy Community Foundation and Charlotte County Group Homes will see a St. Stephen church repurposed to help youth and more.

A youth support program will be included along with office and conference space.

Consultant Keith Pierce is working with a grant from the Fundy Community Foundation on the project.

Pierce said the community response has been overwhelming.

“I wasn’t surprised by that response because there is a need and people see that need and people are very passionate about trying to find solutions to help our youth in this area,” Pierce said.

Census data from 2016 found approximately 20 per cent of youth in Charlotte County are without work, not in school or training programs.

“That’s a pretty alarming statistic and five years have passed and throw a global pandemic into the mix, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that number has no doubt increased in the last four or five years,” Pierce said.

Fundraising is currently underway for the youth support program with the hope to be active in the new space by next spring.
