Council To Discuss Winter Upkeep Of Roads, Sidewalks

Saint John council is expected to hear a presentation Monday night about how the city’s streets and sidewalks are maintained during the winter.

City staff are scheduled to give an overview of the winter management plan, which outlines service level objectives for roads and sidewalks during and after a winter storm.

The plan is not new — it was created in 2009 — but staff say they have received a number of inquiries about service level standards in recent weeks.

Many have taken to social media recently to complain about the state of the city’s sidewalks after storms.

A recent poll by our newsroom found about 70 per cent of people would rate the city’s sidewalk maintenance so far this winter as poor.
