You might say it’s like closing the barn door when the horse is in the next county but Common Council will be talking about the so-called Jelly Bean buildings.
They were torn down earlier this month on Wellington Row. Despite the fact the buildings are already gone, there is a request to make a presentation to Council.
Common Councillor Donna Reardon is miffed the buildings were demolished and says we’ve seen this happen before with the demolition of Union Station decades ago and what she sees as the destruction of Main Street West with six lanes of traffic that go nowhere.
Reardon argues the heritage architecture in the city is why tourists come here so it doesn’t make any sense to her to see it torn down to be replaced by nothing or something that’s inferior. She points out people go to Paris and London and Paris to see the architecture, not to make their way to big box stores.
