Robert Prevost named first American pope in history

History has been made with the election of the 267th pope.

Robert Prevost is the first American pontiff in history.

The Chicago native will be known as Pope Leo XIV.

Prevost was selected on Wednesday during the third vote.

That makes this one of the shortest conclaves in history.

More than 130 voting cardinals cast ballots for the next pontiff.

A cardinal needed more than two-thirds majority to be elected.
