Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour Hits Fredericton

Fredericton is hosting the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour presented by Scotiabank this weekend.

The hosts are Tara Slone and Ron MacLean and all kinds of activities are taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

Members of CFB Gagetown’s hockey team will play a friendly match with both the UNB Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams with Slone and Maclean on hand for that.

The big event according to MacLean is the outdoor viewing party at the Grant-Harvey Centre.

“We have an NHL broadcast that will air on Sunday evening between the San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators, it will see Thomas Chabot who was a great Saint John Sea Dog against Erik Karlsson who essentially was his mentor when they played together with the Ottawa Senators,” stated MacLean.

During that broadcast, there will be a special and no doubt very emotional tribute to former NHLer Danny Grant of Fredericton who passed away earlier this month.

Maclean says “Mike Eagles will be coming on he is a former NHL player and current Athletic Director for St. Thomas University and Mike wants to specifically address Danny Grant we will have the highlights of him, probably the hardest shot in hockey in the 1970s, he had just a cannon of a release.”

MacLean says he is also very pleased to see that the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour is now celebrating its sixth year, and was last in Fredericton in 2015.
