Rotating Strikes Return To Saint John

Rotating postal strikes continuing across the country Thursday with postal union members walking off the job again in Saint John.

CUP-W maintains it’s pushing for improved job security, better health and safety measures and bringing an end to forced overtime.

New Brunswick Federation of Labour President Patrick Colford made the trip from Miramichi to support workers on the picket line. He says long hours can create some problems for letter carriers.

“They need to deliver everything whether forcing them into overtime or not. If the workers aren’t done their run and back in by eight o’clock they are in possession of people’s mail.” Colford said.

CUP-W’s rotating strikes have shut down Canada Post operations in more than 200 communities across the country since October 22nd.

Fundy Local 105 President Kevin Suttie tells us that workers haven’t gotten much notice on whether they’ll be on a rotating strike — saying membership had been encouraged to pack warm clothes for colder conditions in the event they get a call to picket.
