The town of Rothesay has voted in favour of increasing the number of antlerless deer a single hunter can harvest from one to two.
It’s all part of the Kennebecasis Valley Nuisance Deer Management Program.
Quispamsis and Hampton have also taken part in the program since 2014, but have not voted on the potential increase yet.
Mayor Nancy Grant says the town is worried about the number of road kill and collisions with deer.
Grant says there are deer everywhere now and they are becoming more and more of a nuisance.
There are also health concerns involved because deer can transmit lime disease to humans.
The KV nuisance deer management program aims to harvest 90 deer from Rothesay, Quispamsis, and Hampton.
Last year, a total of 10 deer were harvested from Rothesay while 36 came from Quispamsis and 23 from Hampton.
Since starting the program in 2014 the number of car collisions with deer have gone down.
If Hampton and Quispamsis approve the increase it will go into effect from September 5th to October 31st.
