Rothesay Mayor Rejects Any Suggestion Of Gag Order

Rothesay Mayor Bill Bishop is clarifying a new town bylaw which critics are equating with a gag order aimed at stifling public discussion.

Bishop tells us there’s nothing sinister about the intent which is not to muzzle the other members of Town Council. He chuckles at the suggestion that any member of Rothesay Council could be gagged or shut down from speaking their mind because of any bylaw.

He says once a decision is made by Town Council, it’s the Mayor who will be the public voice but councillors can still speak out if they wish, knowing the decision will not change.

As for any councillor getting the heave ho for violating the bylaw, Bishop says that will not happen under his watch.
