Rothesay Moves Into Design Phase for $36M Intergenerational Community Hub

Rothesay’s long‑anticipated Intergenerational Community Complex (RICC) is officially moving from ideas on paper to real design work.

Town Council has chosen Stantec Architecture Ltd. to lead the design and construction planning for the project — a major step toward bringing the new facility to life. With the contract now awarded, the RICC shifts into detailed design, where the look, feel, and layout of the building will really start taking shape.

Mayor Nancy Grant says this moment has been a long time coming. She describes the complex as a “generational investment” that will serve residents of all ages — from arena users to walkers to community groups. Bringing Stantec on board, she says, means the Town is officially moving “from planning into action.”

Stantec is well known across Canada for designing big community and recreation projects, and they’ll now work closely with the Town and local residents as the design process begins. Expect public input sessions and lots of behind‑the‑scenes collaboration over the coming months as the blueprint for the complex takes form.

Rothesay CAO Brett McLean says this stage is all about refining details — how the space will work, what features the community needs most, and how the building will serve residents for decades to come.

The new complex will replace the town’s 54‑year‑old arena and is planned to include:

  • A new arena
  • Indoor walking track
  • Multi‑use community rooms
  • A new home for the Rothesay HIVE

The goal: a modern, inclusive hub designed for everyone.

If all stays on track, the RICC is aiming for a Winter 2028 opening, supported by all levels of government and an active community fundraising campaign goal of $3M.

It’s early in the process — but a big milestone is now behind them, and the real design work is about to begin. Stay up to date with all the progress on the city of Rothesay website.
