Ward 1 Councillor Greg Norton wants to see the creation of a public online list detailing exactly how much money those who work for the city make.
It’s called a Sunshine List and along with the salaries, would include the taxable benefits of municipal employees.
In his submission to council, Norton says while salaries and benefits are the largest expense they are often the least debated and disclosed. He believes having this list would make City Hall more transparent and accountable to Saint Johners
He also urges the Saint John Board of Police Commissioners to adopt a similar policy.
Norton will be bringing his proposal to tomorrow night’s meeting of council.
