Saint John Energy plans to pursue a wind energy project involving up to 10 turbines in the Spruce Lake Industrial Park.
It’s something they have been considering for more than 10 years now and the utility collected 5 years of wind data which support wind development in the area.

President and CEO Ray Robinson says a request for proposals is out now looking for developers and by March they want to shortlist those who submit proposals and by this summer they hope to have selected the developer.
“The environmental assessment and community consultation would also begin this summer. If everything is successful then construction would begin in 2020 and we think we would have something in service towards the end of 2021.” Robinson says.

Saint John Energy says the project benefits include the cost savings are very favourable with wind energy, job creation with significant investment in the region and reducing reliance on imported energy sources.
The expectation is that the company who gets this project would spend $30 million to build 5 to 10 turbines that would generate 20-40 megawatts of energy.
