Saint John Energy warns of scam calls

A phone scam involving Saint John Energy has been making the rounds in the city.

One caller to our newsroom said they got a call from someone claiming to be from the utility.

The scammer, according to the caller, demanded that they send money for a deposit.

Shelley Wood, executive director at Saint John Energy, confirmed they have received a few calls from customers reporting scam calls.

Wood said scammers will sometimes try to disguise themselves as utiliites and target customers by phone

She said demands for immediate payment are a red flag, adding you should never give out personal info to an unknown caller.

You can report a scam caller to Saint John Energy by emailing customer.service@sjenergy.com or calling 506-658-5252 to report a scam caller.
