Saint John Firefighters Battle Baxter Road Blaze

Saint John Fire Fighters tackled a two-storey wooden building fire at 63 Baxter Road in the east end on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was called in shortly after noon and upon arriving, crews had a hard time finding the fire according to Platoon Chief Barry Oickle who says heavy smoke stopped them at first.

They cut vent holes into the roof and first floor ceiling and that released the smoke making the fire visible to fight.

The building was vacated before crews arrived but a search was done just in case someone was left behind. There is no word on the cause of the fire that started in a bathroom at this time.
