Saint John Hopes To Host 2021 Acadian Games

Saint John has agreed, in principle, to host the 2021 Acadian Games.

Common Council will look into hosting the event whether Rothesay and Quispamsis join or not.

Mayor Don Darling says the city will provide up to $50,000 for the event.

The estimated economic spin-off from the Acadian Games is $1.6 million dollars.

Darling says it’s a good business decision for the city to have 1000 athletes, along with their families and supporters visit the port city.

Tourism is often the first phase in someone falling in love with an area and Darling says this event could contribute in a long term way towards growth in Saint John.
