Saint John man faces robbery, forcible confinement charges

A 52-year-old Saint John man has been charged following a robbery and theft of a vehicle in Bloomfield.

On Oct. 2, the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP were made aware of an incident that occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the Bloomfield area.

The incident is believed to have happened when an individual used an edged weapon to gain access to an occupied vehicle.

According to police, the individual forced the driver into the trunk. The driver was released a few hours later and the individual fled the scene.

On Oct. 7, the RCMP’s Southeast District Community Crime Reduction Unit, with the assistance of the Saint John Police Force, identified and arrested a 52-year-old man at a business on Coburg Street in connection with this incident.

The man appeared in court on Oct. 9 and was charged with robbery and forcible confinement.

He was held in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 16.

The investigation is ongoing.
