Saint John officer stabbed during call, woman arrested

A Saint John police officer is recovering after being stabbed while responding to a disturbance Monday night.

Officers were called to a business in the Galbraith Place area around 8:50 p.m. on Monday.

Police say the suspect was found at another nearby business, and during an attempt to speak with her, one officer was stabbed.

The 30-year-old woman was arrested without injury.

Police say the injured officer was treated at the scene, taken to the hospital and later released. Her injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

There were several people inside the store at the time, but no other physical injuries were reported.

Saint John police said the woman appeared in court on Tuesday and was charged with assaulting a peace officer, obstruction, and causing a disturbance.

She was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court Thursday morning for a bail hearing.
