Saint John Police are seeking assistance from the public in connection with a sexual assault investigation.
On February 2, between the hours of 2 am and 4 am, a 29-year-old woman alleges she was picked up in the Anglin Drive area in what looked like a taxi. The vehicle is described as a small blue SUV that had a “VETS” taxi sign on the roof.
She was reportedly taken to a parking lot on Lowell Street where she was sexually assaulted. The woman suffered non-life-threatening physical injuries.
The Major Crime Unit is investigating.
The first letter of the NB license plate was “J” and there was no taxi meter in the vehicle.
Police say the driver of the SUV was described as East Indian or possibly Middle Eastern, 20-25 years old, tall and thin with dark, “shaggy” hair.
Vet’s taxi has confirmed to police they do not have any vehicles matching the description given and all of their vehicles have license plates that begin with the letter “H”. It is believed that the sign may have been stolen.
All taxi drivers should have an operator’s license easily visible to the passengers and it is recommended that all rides be arranged directly through the company itself.
