Saint John police seize $72K in drugs, two men arrested

Saint John police say they’ve seized drugs worth about $72,000 as part of an investigation into an alleged home invasion on Taylor Avenue.

Officers responded to reports of two armed men who entered a home on the 33-block of Taylor Avenue around 12:40 a.m. Thursday.

Police say one of the suspects was wearing a mask, and both are believed to be known to the victims. The pair fled before officers arrived.

A 28-year-old man was arrested later that day, around 1 p.m..

He is facing charges for the following:

  • Robbery
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with a probation order
  • Threats
  • Forcible confinement
  • Break and enter

On Saturday, police arrested a second suspect, a 34-year-old man, around 10:40 a.m.

Officers say they seized approximately six ounces each of fentanyl and cocaine, along with cash.

The estimated street value of the drugs is about $72,000, according to the release.

The 34-year-old is facing charges for the following:

  • Robbery
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Threats
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Forcible confinement
  • Break and enter
  • Disguise with intent
  • Possession of a firearm while prohibited

Both men are being held in custody and were expected to appear in provincial court on Monday for a bail hearing. Police say further charges may be laid.
