Saint John prepares for heavy rain

Saint John EMO is asking residents to be prepared for heavy rain over the coming days.

Up to 85 millimetres of rain is forecast to fall between Tuesday night and Saturday.

Officials said flooding potential is high as recent significant rainfall is still impacting the ground, lakes, streams, and stormwater systems.

City crews are working to clear major catch basins and drainage gutters across the city.

Residents are asked to clear neighbourhood catch basins, if possible, to help with drainage.

You should also use caution and be safe when at beaches and around other coastal areas.

Officials also ask drivers to reduce speeds, keep headlights on, observe all posted signage and barricades, and avoid driving through any areas that are covered in water.
