Saint John Real Estate Sales Drop In March

A local realtor is chalking up what was a less than ideal March for real estate in Greater Saint John to being a blip.

Dave Cochrane of RE/MAX says residential sales activity in the Saint John area was down a little over 18 per cent in March from the year before numbering 90 units.

“The average price of a home sold in March 2018 was $161,402,” says Cochrane, “and that was decreased by 13.6 per cent from March of last year.”

Cochrane says active residential listings numbered just over 1,350 units at the end of March, a drop of over 12 per cent.

The total dollar value of all homes sold last month was $14.5 million — down 29.3 per cent from March 2017.

“The most comprehensive year-to-date average price was $176,207, edging up 3.8 per cent over the first three months of 2017,” says Cochrane. “Buyers beware, prices are going up.”
