It hasn’t been a great start to the year in the Saint John region as far as jobs are concerned.
Enterprise Saint John reports employment in the region declined by 800 jobs in January after 19 hundred jobs had been added over the previous 3 months.
As for the impending closure of Target, Enterprise Saint John says it’s too early to say what the overall impact will be with the loss of no more than 150 jobs. However, This is on top of the 50 jobs eliminated at Bell Aliant.
Canada Mortgage and Housing also reports housing starts were trending down across the province by almost 500 in January compared to December. The harsh winter weather being blamed in part.
