Saint John student finalist for Loran Scholars award

A student from Saint John is a finalist for a Loran Scholars Foundation award.

Thomas Cho of St. Malachy’s Memorial High School is one of 90 people chosen from more than 5,200 applicants across Canada.

Other New Brunswick finalists include Billy Truong of Bernice MacNaughton High School in Moncton and Sally Smith of Fredericton’s École Sainte-Anne.

The Loran Award is a four-year leadership enrichment program that includes summer work experiences, mentorship and a university tuition waiver.

Young people positively impacting their communities are considered for the award.

After national selections in February, the foundation will grant up to 36 awards valued at over $100,000 each over four years of undergraduate study.

Those not selected will be eligible for a $6,000 Loran finalist award.
