Saint Johner Recieves Order of Canada

A local volunteer with almost 50 years of service to the community is receiving the Order of Canada Friday from the Governor-General during a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

Pat Darrah is a lifelong Saint John who got his first volunteer gig when he was just 13 years old for the Empty Stocking Fund and hasn’t looked back since, donating his time to a range of local causes.

He tells CHSJ News it’s been a long and rewarding career but he was still shocked to hear the news that he was recieving the honour. It’s one of the highest that a Canadian can recieve.

Darrah was on the committee to establish Dalhousie med school on the campus of U-N-B Saint John, vice-president of human resources for the Canada Games, and a key person in getting health insurance for the unionized construction workers in this province.
