The Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation announcing a record 1 million dollars in grant money will be available next year which is more than double what was on offer this year.
Executive-Director Stephen Chase claims salmon populations have stabilised and he’s hoping they will start to go up.
The conservation gains include access to 24 million square meters of salmon habitat for spawning along with restoration of more than 366 thousand square meters of salmon habitat.
Chase says the salmon population reached a low point 25 to 30 years ago and there are still threats from pollution, river obstructions as well as global warming.
Most of the more than 200 projects carried out have been done by volunteers.
