Saturday Morning Sports For January 14th

The Saint John Sea Dogs scored three goals in a 4:45 span early in the third period en route to a 4-1 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Matthew Highmore had two goals and an assist. Julien Gauthier added one goal and one assist in his first game as a Sea Dog while Joe Veleno picked up a goal on his 17th birthday. Mathieu Joseph had two assists.

In the NHL, William Nylander and James van Riemsdyk scored in the first period. Frederik Andersen stopped 34 shots and the Toronto Maple Leafs downed the New York Rangers 4-2…..Washington won its 8th in a row, 6-0 over Chicago with 2 goals in 13 seconds……In other play, it was the Islanders 5 Florida 2……Carolina 5 Buffalo 2….Columbus 3 Tampa Bay 1….New Jersey 2 Calgary 1 and Arizona 4 Winnipeg 3.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have retired Martin St. Louis’ uniform number 26. St. Louis played for the Saint John Flames in the American Hockey League.

The Saint John Riptide are still unbeaten at home with a record of 6 and 1 after a 113-103 win over Cape Breton…..Gabe Freeman and Anthony Anderson lead the Riptide with 27 points each while Haakim Johnson posted 20 points and Brian Addison had 12.

In the NBA, DeMar DeRozan scored 28 points and Kyle Lowry added 20 as the Toronto Raptors beat up on Brooklyn 132-113. Elsewhere, it was Boston 103 Atlanta 101….Philadelphia 102 Charlotte 93….Milwaukee 116 Miami 108….Memphis 110 Houston 105…..Minnesota 96 Oklahoma City 86…..Orlando 115 Portland 109….Cleveland 120 Sacramento 108 and Utah 110 Detroit 77.

Because of an ice storm in the U.S. midwest, the NFL playoff game between Pittsburgh and Kansas City has been moved to Sunday night.
