Scotsburn To Close Its Saint John Plant

Scotsburn Ice Cream Company announcing that its plant near Harbour Station is closing by September 2016.

After a thorough analysis of its operations, Scotsburn’s frozen novelty production is being transferred to the company’s other locations.

The company has 27 full time and 16 part time employees.

CEO Doug Ettinger says the decision was difficult to make but they will do everything they can to treat the Saint John employees fairly and provide them with the support they need.

He says the Canadian ice cream industry is very competitive, with two large multi-nationals, several national/regional processors and a highly consolidated retail grocery business.

He says these factors put tremendous pressure on companies like Scotsburn to reduce costs and become more efficient.

The Saint John plant opened at its current location in 1971 and has been owned by Scotsburn since 2001.
