Sea Dogs Send Captain To Rimouski

The Saint John Sea Dogs have opened the trade period with a swap of overagers.

Saint John has acquired forward Jeffrey Durocher from the Rimouski Océanic.

They will also get the team’s first-round pick in 2022, their second-round pick in 2020, and Gatineau’s third-round pick in 2022.

In exchange, the Sea Dogs send team captain Nicolas Guay, along with their first-round pick in 2020 and Drummondville’s third-round pick in 2022 to the Océanic.

“This trade is about the present and the future,” said Trevor Georgie, president and general manager of the Sea Dogs, in a statement.

Georgie said Durocher has lots of experience in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and plays hard.

“There are also other elements to this trade that we can’t share right now that align perfectly with our core and will be very important to our future cup runs,” he said.

Guay joined the Sea Dogs after being acquired from Drummondville in a trade at the 2019 QMJHL Entry Draft. He played 35 games with Saint John registering 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points.

“Four months of Nicolas Guay has had a profound impact on our group, as profound as some would have had in four years,” said Georgie.

“After showing our young group the way, we wanted to give him a chance to go to a team who is at the end of their cycle and try to win a President and Memorial Cup.”
