Seniors Express Mixed Feelings Over COVID-19

Many seniors are feeling the effects of COVID-19. They are in a high-risk category and social distancing is especially important.

Cecile Cassista, executive director for the Coalition for Seniors, says one of their big concerns is social time.

“They’re not able to mingle down in the common room and have their coffee breaks together. Some of them are feeling frustrated.”

Others she has spoken to say they are quite content to sit in their suite.

“They tell me, ‘I’ve been through worse than this,'” Cassista says.

For those living on their own, there are feelings of loneliness if they don’t have family living in the area.

Cassista says there are organizations who have said they can assist if there are seniors in need of groceries.
