Seven Displaced After Overnight Blaze On The City’s East Side

Five adults and two children have been displaced after a fire heavily damaged an older house on the city’s East Side.

On Sunday, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Saint John Fire Department responded to a structure on Mount Pleasant Avenue East.

Fire officials mentioned that the first truck on scene reported heavy smoke from the rear of the two-storey, two-unit complex, two vehicles on fire, as well as two sheds.

A full response was dispatched, which included four fire trucks, and command staff.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 6 a.m. Sunday, and the building has been turned back to the owner.

Volunteers from the Canadian Red Cross are helping the displaced individuals with emergency lodging, meals, clothing, and other basic needs.

The structure fire remains under investigation.
