A typical Tuesday quickly became anything but for public works crews in the town of Hampton.
Mike Raeburn, director of public works and utilities, said he noticed several street signs laying down on his way to work.
“Somebody drove over about nine of our traffic signs,” said Raeburn in an interview Tuesday afternoon.
Raeburn said most of them were stop signs, but there were also yield signs and school zone signs affected.
Crews quickly went to work and hoped to have the signs back up by the end of the day, he said.

There were no collisions reported but Raeburn said the vandalism could have had serious consequences.
“It’s okay if you’re familiar with the town, if you drive it every day, you know where the stop signs are supposed to be, but any visitors coming through wouldn’t know who had the right-of-way or not,” he said.
Raeburn said vandalism is not uncommon in the town but he has not dealt with anything like this recently.
The RCMP were called and are investigating the incident, he said.
