Six New Members To Be Inducted Into N.B. Sports Hall Of Fame

Six new members are going to be inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, including a Saint Johner.

Saint John’s Bill Phillips is going to be posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame. He’s credited as being the first New Brunswicker to play Major League Baseball in 1879 with the Cleveland Blues. He’s the first New Brunswicker to ever hit a home run in 1880 and is the first Canadian with over 1000 career hits. He died in 1900.

The others include highly decorated equestrian Rob Stevenson of Fredericton, coach and administrator Bob Deap of Scotchtown, founder and director of the Chung Won Institute of Taekwondo Master Chong of Moncton, Al Charuk of Moncton who was ranked among the 50 greatest football players on a list compiled by Sportsnet and the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus hockey team.
