SJ Company Fined $65K After Worker Suffers ‘Crushing Injuries’

A Saint John-based company has been fined $65,000 plus a 25-percent victim fine surcharge after a worker in Ontario suffered ‘crushing injuries’ from a steel truss that fell off a forklift.

AZZ Galvanizing Canada Limited, which is located at Chipman Hill in the uptown, plead guilty in the case which dates back to July 25, 2016.

The Ministry of Labour in Ontario says an operator should have been taking care of the forklift when its load was raised and that the load of steel trusses should have been secured.

We’re told the worker was part of a night shift crew galvanizing steel trusses at an industrial establishment in Acton, Ontario.
