Smaller Ferry At Westfield Crossing Until January

Minor changes to the ferry crossing between Grand Bay-Westfield and Hardings Point will begin next week.

As of Thursday, Oct. 20, there will be a 15-car ferry operating at the Westfield crossing instead of a 24-car ferry.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure said the Henry Nase is relocating to Gondola Point to fill in for a ferry going to refit.

“These refits are part of rotating annual maintenance,” spokesperson Tyler McLean wrote in an email to our newsroom.

McLean said the ferry schedule will remain the same despite the smaller vessel.

The change, according to provincial officials, is expected to last until mid-January.

Meanwhile, a second vessel will be available at Westfield as a backup for the winter starting Dec. 1.
