Giving people free food won’t help the issue of poverty.
That word from Sarah Norman, coordinator at the St. George and Area Food Bank, and organizer of “An Evening With The Candidates: Let’s Talk Poverty”.
Norman says they have invited the federal candidates of South-West NB to a public discussion on poverty, and how to improve New Brunswick’s dismal situation.
She tells us, “With this being one of the longest running election campaigns, I feel it’s not only the perfect opportunity, but also my obligation to advocate for my clients and their families, to ask the candidates to not only acknowledge the issue [of poverty], but to bring it to the front of the stage, and help create solutions.”
She says they have pre-chosen 5 questions to ask each of the candidates. After that, the floor will be opened and the public will be able to ask the candidates their own questions related to poverty.
An Evening With The Candidates will be tonight, at the Magaguadavic Place in St. George, from 7-9.
