The provincial government will introduce a stat holiday in February of 2018.
The holiday will be called Family Day and will be held on the third Monday of February.
Premier Brian Gallant says the holiday will help families and communities come together and strike a good work-life balance during our often too long winter season.
The holiday will align New Brunswick with eight other Canadian jurisdictions that have a paid holiday in February.
The addition of Family Day also brings New Brunswick up to the national average of eight paid holidays per year.
The implementation of Family Day has been talked about for some time, with the provincial government first considering it in February of 2016.
