It would be a scary sight to watch an SUV drive into the St. Croix River.
But, that’s exactly what happened to one man who was standing on the St. Stephen Wharf this morning, and called 911.
Sgt. William White with the Calais Police Department says a 2007 Honda CRV was stolen from the Calais Fire department, after being parked there by an on-duty paramedic. The report came in around 1:52 am EST, as the SUV was dumped near the pier in Calais.
St. Stephen and Calais Fire departments responded in boats, along with the Maine State Police dive team, but no one was inside the SUV at the time.
Sgt. White says no arrests have been made in the case, and they are open to receiving tips from the public if they noticed any strange events overnight.
If you know anything about this crime, you’re asked to contact the Calais Police Department at 207-454-2751.
