Storm Blankets Southern New Brunswick In Snow

Environment Canada getting a report of thundersnow in the Greater Saint John area during Friday’s snowstorm.

That’s according to meteorologist Andy Firth who says while thunder and lightning in the winter is rare it does happen from time to time for the same reasons we get thunder and lightning in the summertime.

He does say that it did not show up on their lightning detection network so it must have been fairly localized.

In terms of snowfall, the Saint John area received 18 centimetres of snow on Friday while Moncton received the most snow in the province at 23 centimetres.
