Heavens to Betsy! Similar to “good gracious”, it’s an old-fashioned expression of surprise or dismay, dating back as far as the 1850’s.
More recently, it’s the latest song from Jackson Dean. Jackson said when he started writing this song, he had never even heard the expression. Krista always likes to find out the story behind the song and this one was a surprise. In it, Jackson Dean is talking about what happens after we die. Picture a father in Heaven talking to his daughter, Betsy, back on Earth via a CB radio. (For you youngsters, it’s like a walkie talkie)
If you listen to the lyrics closely the song will take on a new meaning to you next time you hear it. The father talks about putting the daughter through hell with his drinking problems. He is apologizing and trying to make things better.
