One of the ways we can lower our poverty rates and grow Saint John both socially and economically is to grow post secondary education.Saint John has 5,000 community college and university students,Fredericton has 11,000 and Moncton has 14,000. Post secondary education is provincial responsibility and all three cities have to deal with the same province yet we are far behind. This has set us back in population growth and future job creation. Affordable Housing, Better Security ( people have to feel safe ) in our neighborhoods, Cleanliness, Job creation, recreation and keeping taxes low along with getting our industrial tax are also so important. There are so many things that affect an economy.
Our benefits are lower and our generational poverty is higher – we have a huge structural economic and educational deficit that post secondary education can play a key role in changing .
