Student Debt In New Brunswick Higher Than National Average

New Brunswick has the dubious distinction of being number one among the provinces by level of average post-secondary student debt. That’s according to a student debt map compiled by Consolidated Credit Counseling Services.

The N-B Student Alliance is calling on the government to take action. Executive Director Lindsay Handren says what they’re hearing from students is that they don’t think they can stay here when they graduate.

Handren says the average student debt is just over 35-thousand-dollars in New Brunswick, about 13-thousand-dollars higher than the national average.

We have reached out for comment from Minister of Post Secondary Education, Training and Labour Francine Landry but have not heard back.
